Why does Rockport need a website?
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, more than 40% of all U.S. households and more than 85% of those earning $75,000 and above per year have Internet access. The percentages are probably higher in Rockport and will inevitably grow in the future. It’s how people get information these days. The town workers and volunteers who participate in Rockport’s departments, boards, commissions, and committees need to know what’s going on. The left hand needs to know what the right hand is doing. Citizens who work out of town, don’t go downtown, and don’t read the Gloucester Daily Times need to know what’s going on. Town meeting government depends on it. Selectmen, town administrator, department heads, and board, committee, and commission chairpersons need a fast, easy, always available, low-cost way to get the word out to the public.
