Why does ROA think direct voting will empower members and particularly help currently serving Reservists become more involved with ROA?
The concept of being physically present at a national convention to take certain actions is quickly becoming impossible in today’s environment of the operational reserve. In the opinion of many of our younger members, it is an obsolete concept. Frequent mobilizations and training requirements consume vast amounts of time for our currently serving members. Further, economic conditions, employer and family responsibilities, and our aging membership demographics are directly affecting attendance at conventions. Survey feedback shows that serving members want to be able to participate in their professional association, but don’t have the time available to be physically involved. A significant number of our loyal and long-time members are no longer able to travel to national conventions. Deployed members would have a chance to vote even if unable to attend a convention. Allowing the entire membership to vote for its leadership directly will empower everyone to be involved.
