Why does Prospect Hill Farm supplement its animals with a custom blend of locally grown grains?
First, it’s better for our animal’s health. Growing calves benefit from a protein supplement to aid in their skeletal and muscular development. In the winter they need more fuel period. Our custom blend of locally grown grains help them grow healthy and strong. Remember 90% of our animals diet is the grass from our farm. Second, grass fed, grain finished animals taste better. They have the richness and flavor of their grass fed counterparts and the marbling and tenderness of traditional Prime and Choice Beef. To us it is a question of balance – a healthy and a great tasting product.
