Why does police brutality occur?
There has been no established reason(s). The other posters gave the most common reasons, but I will add domestic issues in their own house and just having a bad day in general. The cities need to get back to the better days when they had better police and a rotation of duties. A police officer worked traffic for awhile and then may have rotated to parking enforcement and then maybe a desk job. With the advancement in technology, patrol officers are having to do more in the same shift. You can’t blame it all on the criminal element when an officer shoots or tazes an unarmed citizen for a simple traffic violation or the person is already handcuffed and is not resisting. They are allowed to use only the force necessary to make an arrest.
Well, the general attitude that the criminal is a “victim”, is a big part of the problem. John and Nick pretty much nailed it. Officers put their lives on the line every day, and when they deal with offenders they are disrespected, and often attacked. If they have to put their hands on someone to protect themselves they have to worry about being sued. The general attitude of the public is that officers are out to get everybody, and that the scumbag criminal who just robbed, hurt, or killed someone is just a helpless, “victim”. Even on traffic stops, police put their lives on the line. They have to worry that some cop-hater is going to assault them or shoot them when they make a simple traffic stop. Some officers eventually break down from the constant stress. Every time an officer does go to far, it is plastered all over the national media, and people just blame all officers because of the few. If the police were as rabidly prejudiced against any group of people as the general public i
1.Mainly to extort confession. 2. The loopeholes of justice which enable a criminal to get away often frustrates the police and thus they feel the punishment needed to be given then and there in case the law fails to give it to the criminal. 3. Too much exposure to violence and rough life can create psychological problem in some armed personnel and turn them into sadists.
Uncontrollable anger- often it exists before they take the job, ego and lack of morality usually accompany it Abuse of power- a feeling of power, personal vendetta, racism, No real punishment- police officers are RARELY held accountable, if anything is done it might be paid suspensions or at worst fired.
