Why does Phoenix use such heavily rated axle and bearing assemblies?

0

One of the several major requirements for successful 4WD touring is to try and maintain vehicle/caravan wheel and tyre compatibility where possible and also maintain the correct and legal axle weight capacity. To achieve this end Phoenix uses correctly rated axle/bearing combinations to allow the use of up to 16 inch wheels and tires without compromising the lateral stress rating at the bearing. The traditional ‘slimline’ bearing assembly is only rated at around 1100kg when 16 inch wheels are fitted. Parallel bearing, [ESS], assemblies are rated at 1600kg with 16 inch wheels. It sometimes becomes necessary to use massive 2 tonne rated axles in certain circumstances to maintain the ability to retain wheel interchangeability and still have a legal axle weight rating. Phoenix Engineers take their responsibility to their clients very seriously and they go to great lengths to produce their Caravans with correctly balanced and compatible axle/brake/weight/bearing combinations.
