Leadership is a frequently discussed concept. Around the world, thoughtful people perceive a crisis of leadership as the well-established institutions and processes for dealing with an ever-growing number of social, economic, environmental, and political problems seem less and less capable of developing solutions or creating progress. We wonder where effective leaders are to prevent or respond to each new calamity or issue whether global, national, local, or personal — nuclear proliferation, wars, genocide, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, community disputes, corporate scandals, education, pollution, human rights – the list goes on and on and there is no shortage in sight of opportunities for effective leaders to make a difference.
