OWA does this to protect your privacy. If OWA didn’t contain this functionality, you would inadvertently send the “origin page” information to the linked page when you follow that link. The “origin page” is the URL of the message in your mailbox that contains (among other things) your user name and the subject line of the message that contains the embedded link. By utilizing the redirection script on OWA, these personal details are scrubbed from the HTTP-REFERRER header.
