Why does Organic Valley use paperboard milk cartons?
While we constantly research alternatives, for now, paperboard cartons are a good choice for many reasons. First and foremost, they protect the flavor and nutritional value of the milk and juice because paperboard prevents 96% of light exposure. That’s important because milk and juice lose valuable nutrients and develop unpleasant flavors when exposed to light. So much hard and loving work goes into our organic milk and orange juice, we feel they should retain as much farm-fresh flavor and nutrition as possible. As we continually research alternatives, the quality and safety of our milk and juice has the highest priority in our packaging decisions. Please check all sides, near the very top of your cartons.
