This subject is discussed on page 53 of the OpenWindows Version 3 User’s Guide Release Manual. The OLIT widget toolkit, which is used by IDL, added the concept of “mouseless focus” under version 3.0. The red widget indicates where the current mouseless focus is. Use the arrow keys to traverse the widgets, and the spacebar to make a selection.
