Why does OMVIC need funding? Will the new MVDA really cost that much to implement?
OMVIC’s Board went through the new MVDA in fine detail to figure out the costs, and there’s no single section of the Act that we can point to as being responsible for the lion’s share of the increase in costs. There are increased costs in small amounts throughout. The good news is that the new Act brings benefits not just to consumers, but also to dealers. An important initiative which OMVIC needs to undertake is to better educate consumers about the dangers of becoming curbsider victims. Although we already do this to some extent, we need to do more of it, and do it more effectively.
