Why does OHSU lack sufficient parking capacity?
A. The City of Portland limits the number of parking spaces on Marquam Hill to control the volume of traffic back and forth between Marquam Hill, due to severe limitations on road capacity at the primary road intersections that serve the campus. Consequently, OHSU has less parking capacity to allocate than other Portland-area hospitals and universities. OHSU s facilities at South Waterfront will have substantially better parking capacity, but not at levels comparable to suburban facilities. Q. Why do OHSU employees have to pay for parking when it s free at other employers? A: The OHSU Parking and Transportation office is an auxiliary department, meaning we must be fully self-funded. Parking fees, as well as nominal transportation fees, are collected in order to maintain the functions of our office. These functions include managing current and future parking capacity, subsidizing alternative transportation, and paying off the bond financing for our current parking structures. Other empl
