Windows XP sometimes defaults to automatically turning on Number Lock whenever you log into Windows. You will need to edit the registry to fix this. WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. • Click on Start, then Run. • Type ‘regedit’ and click OK. • On the left side of the screen: • Click to expand the Registry Key’HKEY_USERS.’ • Click to expand the Registry Key ‘Default.’ • Click to expand the Registry Key ‘ControlPanel.’ • Click on the Registry Key ‘Keyboard.’ • On the right side of the screen: • Double-click the Value Name ‘Initial Keyboard Indicators.’ • If the Value Data is set to anything otherthan 0 (zero), change it to 0 (zero). • Click OK. • Close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer.
