Why does Nottingham need a flood scheme?

0

Nottingham has a history of flooding dating back to 1795. The current defences were built after serious flooding in 1947 affected 28 miles of road, 3000 properties and 86 factories in the city centre. After further significant flood events in 1998 and 2000 we worked with partner organisations to study the flood risk over the entire length of the River Trent and its main tributaries. The findings were published in the Fluvial Trent Strategy (2005) which showed that the existing defences offered a relatively low standard of protection compared with the latest best practice recommendations. Based this work we have prepared and started work to reduce food risk by building the Nottingham Left Bank flood alleviation scheme.
