Why does NESCA address educational issues in its evaluations?
Many insurers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, now authorize neuropsychological testing only when they determine it to be medically necessary, and refuse to cover testing solely for educational purposes. At NESCA, we consider the two components to be inseparable, because your childs disability will inevitably affect his or her major life activity, which is school, and it is important to understand the nature and extent of the impact. Conversely, much of any necessary remediation may well happen in school, and we need to be able to write well-reasoned, detailed recommendations about how the school should address your childs special needs.
