Why does ND wear yellow? Is that the opposite of purple?
As a matter of fact, yes, it is! In the colour spectrum, yellow is directly opposite purple – the reason being because purple is the combination of the two primary colours red and blue, and the third primary colour yellow is absent from it. The opposite colour to red is green (blue + yellow), and the opposite colour to blue is orange (red + yellow). Of course, not of all of Negs’s outfit is a spectrally-opposed colour scheme to Darkwing’s; but, as Kim McFarland pointed out in a fanfic, there’s a kind of snake that has the colours of yellow, red, and black. So it’s possible that red and black were chosen to go with the yellow because of that snake (which, by the way, is quite deadly).
