Why does my temperature gauge not working on my 2001 chevy monte carlo?

**I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and I just went through the same thing! If your fans are running constantly also and even if they aren’t….I would definitely look at the cooling system in relation to the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor. I had just flushed my cooling system but never changed anything but the coolant and the hoses and shortly after, the car started not showing any temperature on the gauge and my check engine came on and the fans constantly were running. After I replaced the thermostat and temp sensor, everything is back to normal!! Not sure which one of the two was the actual problem but since they were so close to each other… just didn’t make sense in just doing one of them!! Learned my lesson on that years ago!!
