When in Doubt CHANGE THE SMOKE DETECTOR or at least add another one here in Maryland and I am sure most other places they are under $10.00 and fire departments will give you one for free! your life and that of others is not worth waiting for the right answer. I am only preaching cause there was a fire in a relative’s house and a cat woke up my daughter to a house on fire and full of smoke!

I don’t think your detector is bad. Some units will have a small filter/screen that can get dusty. Try cleaning this off (canned air works good). The dirt can make for a false reading causing the unit to chirp.
