Why does my Linksys WRT54g router keeps dropping connection?

Downloading the latest firmware should fix the problem, I was having the same problem and it ceased as soon as my router was running on the latest firmware. The latest release was early last month if I remember correctly. If you’re running a WRT54G older than version 5, it’s probably time to upgrade. The sticker on the bottom of the router will tell you the version, and you’ll need this anyway to upgrade the firmware. If that doesn’t solve the problem then Windows XP could be the culprit, assuming you’re running XP with SP2. A “feature” was released with XP SP2 that limits the number of concurrent connections to 10, which is far too low for anyone but the average internet user. It’s an easy fix, but that’s an answer for another question.
