Why does my internet explorer crash instantly as i load it up.?

For the last 4 or 5 days there have been warnings given out that Chinese hackers have been infiltrating Internet Explorer as it is virus ridden . They are taking peoples details such as passwords and bank details. Microsoft was preparing a “patch” to stop this but I don’t know if it has been sucessful yet.
