Why does my data disappear when I set the View Projection in ArcView 3.X?

Set the View Projection in ArcView 3.X View Properties dialog only when you are using data that is unprojected. Unprojected data is in latitude/longitude (usually decimal degrees). Your “view” of the data can be projected to look like the data uses a projected coordinate system like State Plane coordinates. Most DENR data is already in State Plane coordinates and does not need the View to have a projection set. In fact, setting this causes ArcView some confusion and this is why your data does not display. Since ArcView 3.X does not support on-the-fly projection, all your vector-based data (shape files and coverages) must be in the same coordinate system (example, all in latitude/longitude which are called geographic coordinates or all in State Plane coordinates).
