Adobe Illustrator CS3 and CS4 have a feature called isolation mode, and by double-clicking grouped objects you will enter this isolation mode by default. The preference for entering isolation mode is located in the Illustrator General Preferences. To disable the behavior, uncheck “Double click to Isolate” in the Illustrator Preferences.
