The mechanic was correct about replacing the timing belt when fixing the crank seal.You have to pull alot of stuff off to get to it.Then you don,t want to put on the old parts when you put it together.He may have not put the timing belt on properly.This means that your timing maybe a couple of notches off.This may be fixed by turning the distributor.Or putting a timing light on the truck.I am a firm believer of letting toyota mechanics only work on my rigs.This doesn,t mean take it to the dealerjust to a guy who really knows his toys.Take it in for a second opion on the smell thing.
