Why does Microsoft send Windows Genuine Advantage software through Automatic Updates?
We have received feedback from customers that they appreciate the ability to determine whether or not their reseller sold them a genuine version of Microsoft Windows. Providing WGA through AU simplifies the validation process for customers since they will automatically receive a notification to learn whether they are running genuine software. Also, for customers who opt in, no personal data is collected during the validation process and it remains completely anonymous.
