Why does Marilyn Manson perform self mutilation on stage in front of “impressionable teenagers”?
I shall qoute Marilyn himself for this answer: “It was a bit symbolic on one level. It’s the interaction between one person and alot of others who are listening to that person. Also to see people’s reaction’s and how it affects them. For me, to be on stage is an outlet to release all the emotions I’ve pent up all day, whether it be aggression or anything else I might be feeling that day. I tend to save all of that up, so it becoms real explosive.” When it comes to his fans mutilating themselves, I shall also qoute Manson again: “I never said be like me. I say be like you and make a difference”.
