The highest-performance gradient system in the MAGNETOM Sonata has been specified for a 40 cm FOV to remain in the physiological area given by the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). In terms of clinical practice, the 40 cm FOV does not limit the range of applications at all. The FOV can be easily extended on all Siemens ultra-short bore MAGNETOM systems by using Integrated Panoramic Positioning IPP™ and the Panoramic Table. Automatic and software-controlled table positioning enables imaging of large anatomies (spine, chest/abdomen, peripheral angiography). This technique includes automatic switching of active coil elements.
