Why does luggage get offloaded and put onto later flights?
We know it can be a real pain, and when ever possible we do try our utmost to avoid it at all costs. The most common reason that luggage is offloaded is due to a weight restriction which the Captain can impose for the following reasons: • Weather conditions e.g. wind direction, heat, rain etc. at either the departing or arrival station • Fuel can also be a factor if we need to carry additional fuel for any reason • Lanseria has a shorter run way than the other airport stations, this is also a contributing factor to weight restrictions imposed at Lanseria. If a weight restriction is imposed it means that an aircraft can not operate with its standard weight allowance and thus the load has to be reduced, this can be due to restrictions at departing or arrival stations. In the event that this happens baggage will be transferred to later flights where there is availability and we will then deliver the baggage to customers.
