What you have to do is have a family memeber back home help you out. what I do is order online, and ship to my parent’s home and have them ship to me. They decalre things as old clothes and then everything is OK. When you order online and then have them shipped directly to you in Japan is how you are exposed to the import tarrifs. If you have a family member act as the middle man, you can avoid the import taxes. As a side note, I tried to setup a private PO box at a Mail Boxes Etc, but that does not work. The idea was to have the MBE recieve shipments from online stores and then have them ship to me in Japan. Most online stores will not ship to private mail boxes such as an MBE for obvious reasons. Thus, I have my family help out with shipments. In the end, I do the math and figure out if the cost is worth it for each case and scenario. My wife and I also had the same problem.
