Why does it take longer to cook food at home than at a restaurant?
All of the prep work (chopping, gathering ingredients) is done ahead of time. So that part of cooking a restaurant meal only takes seconds. Anything like a special sauce or anything with very long cooking times is premade or partially made and just heated. Pasta many times is par cooked and then finished for an order. At a very good restaurant I think ten minutes may be a little quick…but it does sort of depend on the food. I think at better restaurants 30 minutes is more the norm…after an appetizer and salad course. A lot of food like a steak, hamburger, chicken breast, pastas, etc…really ony take 10 minutes. Many restaurants do have much hotter ovens…good steak places have ovens that reach 1000 plus degrees. If it is something like whole chickens, ribs, prime rib, or something that does take exceptionally long it is cooked ahead of time…that is why some places will run out of these dishes towards the end of a busy night. You will rarely get a pizza in ten minutes unless it
