Why does it help to wait until six months before introducing solids?
• The older your baby is when he first tastes real food the more mature his digestive system has become. The proteins are less likely to leak into bloodstream and your baby can handle different foods without having an allergic reactions. Also his immune system is more mature and better at recognizing that difference between food protein and bacteria. Exclusively breastfeeding until your baby is six months old may not prevent his developing an allergy, but it can reduce the likelihood and severity. In babies who have no solids before six months, allergies appear later, tend to be milder and the children grow out of them earlier.
