Why does IN THE LONG RUN A Hopeful World Odyssey cost so much?
I m going to let you in on a publisher s secret… Frankly, with the costs of production, advertising, and distribution, books are supposed to return approximately five to eight times their production costs to make them worth putting on the market. And the only way to keep the price down is to print in volume at least 5,000 copies or more. Even at that, publishers loose money on most books (especially on those that end up in remainder bins at supermarkets.) Since I am currently funding all costs on my own, I have to print IN THE LONG RUN one copy at a time. Even priced at $69.95, I make only two times the cost to physically produce the book. With all the other costs, I am loosing money on the book in its current form but it is the only way to get the book out there right now. I could do it for a bit less if I cut the size of the book, as New York and Toronto publishers suggested to me, but I feel I would also be cutting the quality and benefit to you and I refuse to do that.
