Why does IBM insist on installing a “base” product along with the display emulator?
In Client Access Express, we divided the Base Support into 7 different installable components. The following were extracted from Base and put into separate optionally installable components: Mail APIs, Incoming Remote Command, Directory Update, and Online User’s Guide used to be in Base and are now in selectable installable components under Client Access Optional Components. OLE DB and ODBC were extracted from Base and are now separate optionally installable components under Data Access. The only remaining functions in Base Support are the functions that are most basic to the product such as processing errors, AS/400 password processing, communications to the AS/400, getting the right national language enablements needed for the PC , checking for/installing service packs and checking for/installing future releases of this product.
