The reaction goes like this: 2 H2 + O2 = H20 Hydrogen and oxygen want to be together. When they do come together they also get rather hot, hence flame. You also get some water vapor. You can try it at home. Just run electricity through water… although be warned that playing with fire, water and electricity at once may not be the safest thing you could do with your free time. Just FYI the sun is doing something completely different called nuclear fusion. No oxygen is involved. Instead four hydrogen atoms come together and permanently become one atom on a nuclear level.
