Why does Health Care Cost So Much?
That is the $64,000.00 question. However, when you take into consideration that the cost of health care has risen exponentially over the past 50 years, you can see where the increases have come from: primarily from prescription drugs and specialists.
In the 1940s, 50s and even 60s, most folks were seen by the General Practitioner. My first child was born in 1956 and it cost $150.00 at Kirwood Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Bennett was my only doctor throughout the entire pregnancy. Perhaps I am lucky, but perhaps these newer methods are more dangerous, because over the next ten years I had two more children, each costing more and receiving more treatment. Fortunately all were healthy natural births.
