Why does Haiti have a higher birth rate then Canada?
Well, lack of access to contraception may be one reason. But I think the biggest reason, is that when people are poor they have less options for entertainment. Therefore, instead of going out for entertainment, a couple might stay home more and have more sex than someone who had money to go out. Some evidence to support this can be shown by higher rates of HIV transmission in Haiti and other poorer nations. Also, some cultures purposefully have big families, so as soon as they are old enough, they can send those kids to work to bring home money into the family. I don’t know if that is the case in Haiti or not.
