Why does Greece celebrate the full moon in August with events?
It has been established for the last few years by the Archaeological Council and the Ministry of Culture, during the summer and especially during the August when there are 2 full moon nights, to open during the night several Archaeological sites for people to go and watch the full moon. There is no obvious religious reason for that, as it is suggested by the inquirer. The only reason is simple for touristic promotion and on many of the open places musical events take place simultaneously. Just imagine watching the full moon sitting on the steps of Parthenon or in Sounion. Personally, I prefer to do it sitting on my veranda drinking a cool drink and watching the full moon playing hide and seek behind the cypresses while listening to my favorite singer.
