Many people are drawn to God in times of crisis. God allows natural disasters for the same reason he allows parents to punish their kids, because He loves them. When you deny God and disobey Him, you deserve to be punished just like the child who disobeys their parents. Neither are done out of spite or hate but out of love and trying to educate what is correct.
