Why does FIC have a pre-existing conditions policy?
Many insurance companies have a pre-existing conditions policy. For FIC, the policy is in place to ensure that our plans remain sustainable and affordable for all enrollees. Insurance coverage works because enrollees are brought together to form an insurance group. Some enrollees in the group may need extensive medical care, while others are relatively healthy. It’s this balance that allows for insurance companies to offer a variety of coverage for different enrollees. However, if enrollees only purchase coverage when they need medical attention and end their coverage when they don’t, the level of risk for the entire group goes up, costs increase, and benefits are reduced. FIC is dedicated to providing affordable health insurance benefits for independent workers now and twenty years from now, so we do everything we can to protect the group.
