Why does fatty liver disease cause bad breath?
Hi. I don’t know if it actually does cause bad breath. Certainly it hasn’t had that effect on me (diagnosed a few months back). However that may be because I totally changed my diet when I was diagnosed. I immediately eliminated all dairy products and any foods containing gluten – and all alcohol except for a small glass of good red wine on VERY special occasions. My diet now consists of fish, good healthy crisp fruit and vegetables, snacks of pine nuts, walnuts, unsalted cashews, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, soya or rice milk, soya desserts (they’re yummy!!), soya ‘yoghurt’, gluten and dairy free biscuits (not too many!), organic apple juice, plent of sipped water, NO carbonated drinks. Milk Thistle tablets. I miss my normal cups of tea, but I do still enjoy good black coffee (minimal!) and with raw cane sugar/molasses/demerara – totally cut out refined sugar. It can be a problem with meals out, but if you phone ahead and explain, they can usually accommodate you – I take my own food
