Why Does Expression Vary?
Different DNA sequences express at wildly different levels, even when all known regulatory elements are the same. Codon frequencies vary significantly between different organisms, and between genes expressing high or low levels of protein within the same organism. Gene Synthesis companies initially assumed they could use the codon frequencies from native highly expressing genes to guide the choice of codons when designing synthetic genes. Although our competitors still do this, DNA2.0 in-house research and customer responses led us to realize that natural codon frequencies have NOT been optimized for your research success.
