Why does exploitation exist?
A.. Why, (or rather) How does it exist? Exploitation doesnt exist on its own. It’s the economic aspect of the unequal relationships between humans – and between humans and nature – that are essential to the form of political economy we experience in Western societies.. These exploitative economic relationships necessary co-exist with: a) political domination – even in the most democratic form of capitalist societies the policies of any government are always adjusted to ensure that people have to exchange their labour at rates which fit the economic system (ref 1 below) b) cultural control – sometimes called ideological or hegemonic control .These are usually in the form of meta narratives about the kind of society we want to live in, which, strangely enough, always seems to fit the kind of society in which the exploitation of labour continues without too much fuss. In Liberal Democratic societies the major themes of this narrative are ‘individualism’ and ‘freedom’, although in practice
