Why does Experian hold credit account information?

Major lending companies have agreed to share details of their customers’ credit agreements with each other. To enable them to do this, they store details of their agreements with one or more credit reference agencies. This allows them to check how a person has repaid other lenders in the recent past and gives them an indication of whether applicants can afford to repay or take on new credit agreements. To see what information is held by the credit reference agencies you need to contact them directly and order a copy of your credit report.
