In Aussie the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is known as the VIN and is used by the RTA Road Traffic Authority or Vic-Roads, to identify your car, and check to see if it is stolen etc, they use VIN in abbreviated form on their forms, rather than use the whole words (takes up to much room on the forms). Basically a lot of words are abbreviated to make it easy to remember and cut down on the space when in printed form. Occasionally we need to remind people what the abbreviation means. So we need to know what it stands for and as for the VIN on the car, we need to know where it is located.
