Because statically, they are losers that will end up pumping gas, get a substance abuse habit, and breed up a large litter of children. College is optional considering the numbers… More than 50% of people that start college drop out before they get a 2 year degree and something like 50% of those that finish a degree don’t actually use that degree in their future employment. But HIGH SCHOOL is a requirement! People that get their GED also do not do as well in life, statistically, as those that actually make it through normal High School. Don’t get me wrong… High School was a JOKE and I learned more from watching Discovery Channel and the nightly national news than I did from ANY Of the teachers at Desert Vista High School but it needs to be gone through for LOOKS if nothing else. Not all high school dropouts are bad, worthless people as you say. But, it is true, they can and many do suffer great hardships in their lives, due to illness and as you said, uncaring parents. These kids slip through a crack somehow because their potential may have been even greater than an honors student had they just had the right guidance and/or prodding. But, the truth is the truth in this society and they are and will also be judged because of their lack of education. It’s been my own, personal experience seeing that the average kid who does drop out is a druggie and slacker these days. And the worst part is, it’s getting to the point where they don’t only want you to have a high school diploma anymore, but, at least some sort of degree from college in order to get hired at jobs a diploma from school was once good enough for.
