Why does every religion seem to have a problem with homosexuality?
You tend to have to look into the culture of origin for the religion in question to answer this. For a great many it simply has to do with people fearing things they don’t understand. Also keep in mind that most cultures are male-dominated and straight men tend to feel threatened by any sort of feminization. A lot of men are uncomfortable with male homosexuality because it results in a male being put in a typically female position — being penetrated. Male sexuality is also stereotypically more aggressive and dominating than female sexuality, due partially to cultural ideas but also to the very different ways that testosterone and estrogen affect the body, and the existence of gay men creates the frightening prospect for a straight man of the powerful force of male sexuality being directed towards them. Every ‘religion’ has a Deity, so people naturally follow whatever God commands and teaches. God condemns homosexuality, calling it ‘vile’ and ‘immoral’. God did not create human beings to have erotic sexual activity with the same gender. The only intimate ‘relationship’ that is recognized by God is between a husband and wife.
Probably because most of their holy books were written in a time when homosexuality was still very much seen as a taboo. ..As to WHY it became a taboo in the first place, that’s a lot harder to answer. But people have always had a tendency of fearing and discriminating against things they just don’t understand and/or things that deviate from the norm, it seems. Probably due to instincts and the likes, for the most part. Anyway: The Abrahamic religions are particularly bad in regards to this one issue. Buddhism, Wicca, Paganism, etc all tend to be much more accepting.
