Why does Eric want to destroy Islamic/Arab cultures?
His purpose is a gift: he wants to survive, and protect and spread the good things he sees in American/Western cultures. His method is madness: destroy Arab/Islamic culture (do they not deserve American tolerance, and a pluralistic approach?) Why does anyone participate in war/terror? Their purposes are laudable: they want to protect their people, and protect and/or spread the good they see in their culture. The method is madness (do others not also deserve protection?) We usually have multiple motivations of course, some highly personal (e.g. join the military to provide income for the family), but they are all divine if you dig deep enough. Even the apparently sick, twisted ones boil down to things like wanting input, wanting respect, some motivation that you would not object to. Why is it often so hard for us to see through to that? Because domination thinking is so deeply embedded, in so many cultures, that it seems like human nature rather than the cultural phenomenon that is. It’
