There is a bug in some versions of GTK that causes certain print backends to hang. If you do not want to upgrade your GTK to a fixed version, you can make use of the org.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.disablePrinting flag available in Eclipse 3.3.1 maintenance builds as well as 3.4 M1 and later. To use this, you must pass the flag to eclipse on startup: ./eclipse -vmargs -Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.
