Why does District 39 need a tax rate increase?
District 39 is facing a budget shortfall of $5.5 million this year and a projected shortfall of $3.7 million for the coming 2011-12 school year. Balancing the budget requires either additional revenue or further budget cuts, or a combination of the two. A tax rate increase will allow District 39 to maintain its excellent educational programs.
