Why does Diet Coke and Mentos Explode?
The chemical reaction that occurs when Mentos is added to Diet Coke involves the escape of carbon dioxide. Diet soda contains a higher level of carbon dioxide, thus producing a more dramatic “explosion”. If you are going to try this experiment you will need a two liter bottle of diet soda and about 13 Mento candies. Outdoors is the ideal location for this experiment!
