Why does DEVONthink convert my Word files to RTF?
The Word file format is a proprietary format defined by Microsoft, and only Microsoft Word can properly read and display it. Therefore DEVONthink uses the Word-to-RTF converter built into Mac OS X to convert Word files to RTFs, which it can then read, analyze, and display. A future version of DEVONthink will keep the Word file as-is and use RTF only for displaying it.
