Why does CPS Energy need to build a substation?

0

Currently the only CPS Energy substations in northwest Bexar County are close to Loop 1604. As growth continues in western Bexar and eastern Medina counties, where CPS Energy serves retail customers, the existing substations’ ability to provide acceptable levels of service to the area decreases. A new substation in the FM471 / FM1283 / Highway 211 area will strengthen the area’s electrical infrastructure by decreasing the distance distribution lines carry power, thereby increasing reliability and capacity. Increased reliability reduces the number of power outages and reduces the amount of time needed to restore power during an outage.
